The soils of the Domaine du Mas Rouge are of jurassic origin. The appear like old alluvial deposits and chalky stone pieces surroundly by very stony garrigues, planted with holm oaks, and aromtic plants (wild thyme, rosemary...).
It is a mediterranean wineyard that takes advantages of an exceptional sunshine (more than 300 sunny days a year) and low pluviometry.
There is an early vegetation, the maturity of grape barries is improved by the damp sea winds coming from the Aresquiers Wood and the tramontane wind trough thee hills of the Gardiole.
The training of the vineyard is carefully planned :
1) From mid November to mid March, the greatest part of our vineyard will be goblet pruned (cf. photo above) so as to let the lowest grapes highly profit the reverberation of the sunrays on the stones and of the heat stocked at night.
2) All through the vegetal life cycle, after a close observation of the yard, phytosanitary treatments are methodically applied in a non systematic but reasoned way.
3) At last it is picking time, essentielly made at hand to realise a quality choice on the wine trunks, but also because the goblet-pruned wineards don't allow mechanisation. Our picking-hardvest will last from mid October according to the products we want to elaborate.
